Mount Pearl to Co-Host 2010 National Tournaments

Soccer fans in Mount Pearl are in for a real treat this year as two National Tournaments are scheduled to be played in our area. The Mount Pearl Soccer Association, in partnership with the St. John’s Soccer Association, has been selected to co-host some of the best soccer players in the country as provincial All-star teams from across Canada will hold their National Championships here in the Girls Under 14 and Girls Under 16 age divisions. The competition is scheduled for July 20th-25th and Mount Pearl athletes should be well represented on the NL teams as we currently have seven of our athletes named to each training pool from which the final teams will be selected. Names of those athletes in each training pool can be found on page 4 of this newsletter. What a better way to represent your province then in a tournament played in your home province and on your home field. Good luck to all those players in the training pools.

Then from October 6th-11th, the MPSA as the official host, again with the St. John’s Soccer Association as a partner, will host the Boys and Girls Under 18 National Club Championships. The Boys Division will have a total of 12 teams (an official representative and an official host team will represent NL) while the Girls Division will have a total of 10 teams, with just an official representative team from this province. The official NL team will be the provincial club tournament winner, while no decision has been made as to how the Boys host team will be selected. Mount Pearl will have an excellent chance to represent NL in both competitive Divisions. We wish all our teams the best of luck in the 2010 season.
 
As can be appreciated it will take many volunteers to run these tournaments in the standard we have done in the past. Volunteers will be needed in a variety of areas including security, gate and canteen workers, hospitality and field workers, etc. if you are interested in volunteering a few hours during these events, please register your name by calling the Clubhouse at 364-9793.
